Strong and Steady
Join us for an informative and supportive workshop designed for:
- Anyone at risk of falls, or those isolating themselves due to fear of falling
Topics addressed in this workshop include:
- Learn and practice safe, effective exercises for strength and balance. Our facilitators will guide you through core exercises focused on building strength and balance — both of which are vital to healthy aging
- Understand how to prevent falls and stay active safely
- Explore community resources for ongoing physical activity
- Learn how healthy nutrition can assist you in building your overall strength
- As part of the workshop, participants will visit a local community site where you can choose to continue being active independently at low or no cost
What to Bring:
- Wear comfortable clothing and flat, supportive shoes with low, broad heels and non-slip soles.
- If you use a cane, walker, or any assistive devices to get around, bring them with you.
Workshop Format:
Adults (18+)
5-week sessions, 2 hours in length – offered in-person or virtually via Zoom
How do you get into the workshop?
- You can be referred by your RDPCN primary care provider or,
- If your primary care provider is part of the RDPCN you can self-refer by calling 403.314.3297
- If you are already seeing a RDPCN Nurse, Psychologist, Mental Health Counsellor, Recreation Therapist or Pharmacist, you can ask them about a referral
Participant Manual:
Provided on the first day of the workshop at no cost. A free pdf version is available online for Zoom participants.

To get the most value from this workshop, we encourage you to attend each session and actively practice the skills you learn each week. Participants who make the course a priority, set personal goals, and stay motivated to practice daily typically experience the greatest benefits.
